How long did you actually sleep?
Enter when you went to bed and woke up. We’ll account for the time you spent falling asleep and awake during the night.
What the result includes
The first number is estimated time asleep. We calculate time in bed across midnight, then subtract your reported sleep latency and nighttime wakefulness.
We also compare the estimate with the target in your local sleep profile. That difference is useful for planning, but it is not a diagnosis or a precise measure of sleep debt.
The simple formula
Estimated sleep = wake time − bedtime − sleep latency − awake time.
Example: 11:15 PM to 7:00 AM is 7h 45m in bed. Minus 20 minutes to fall asleep and 15 minutes awake gives an estimated 7h 10m asleep.
Common questions
How do I calculate how much sleep I got?
Count the time from going to bed to waking, then subtract the time it took to fall asleep and the time you were awake during the night. The result is still an estimate unless sleep was measured.
Does time in bed equal time asleep?
Usually not. Time in bed includes the period before falling asleep and any awakenings. That is why this calculator displays both values.
What if I went to bed before midnight?
The calculator automatically treats a wake time earlier on the clock as the following day, so 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM is calculated as eight hours in bed.
Can this tell me my REM sleep?
No. True sleep stages require signals such as brain activity and eye movement. A clock-time calculator cannot determine them.
