Find a gentler time to wake
Start with when you’ll sleep and gently explore a few possible wake-up windows.
Why we show windows
Many calculators return a single exact minute. That implies more certainty than clock time can provide. Sleep cycles can change in length across a night, so we show a range built from your chosen cycle estimate ±5 minutes per cycle.
Use cycle timing carefully
Cycle planning is secondary to getting enough sleep. If the shortest option leaves you below seven hours, prefer a longer window whenever possible.
This tool does not measure NREM or REM sleep. Only appropriate sensors and clinical interpretation can identify actual sleep stages.
Common questions
How long is one sleep cycle?
A typical sleep cycle is often described as roughly 80–100 minutes, but length changes across the night and between people. The adjustable setting is a planning input, not a measurement.
Will waking at the end of a cycle guarantee I feel refreshed?
No. Sleep inertia, total sleep, schedule consistency, health, and individual variation all affect how you feel. A window may reduce the chance of a mid-cycle alarm, but cannot guarantee an outcome.
How many cycles should I sleep?
Four to six cycles are common in a night, but total duration matters more than hitting a specific count. Healthy adults generally need at least seven hours regularly.
